Colo, mother of three, celebrated her 56th birthday on Saturday, December 22, 2012, at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium in Columbus, Ohio, where she was born.
Cola, a western lowland gorilla, is the first gorilla born in a zoo and the oldest in any zoo.
Her family tree includes more than two dozen descendants living at zoos across the country.
